Elgiva Carter
1881 - 1960
Elgiva Carter was born on August 7, 1881, on a farm near Minneapolis in Ottawa County, Kansas, the daughter of Stephen and Esther Porter Carter.
She was married to Newton Clyde Emery on April 4, 1906, at Minneapolis, where they resided until 1918 when they moved to Tescott, also in Ottawa County, Kansas. While there she took an active part in the Methodist Church and in the Rebekah Lodge. She had a deep interest in flowers and gardening. Following the death of her husband, N.C. Emery, 1956, she returned to make her home in Minneapolis where she was a member of the Methodist Church and Eastern Star. She was perceded in death by one son, Clyde Carter Emery. She was survivied by one son, Richard H Eery, of McPherson, Kansas, and by three daughters: Esther Eklund, following, Margorie O. Willett of Beloit, and Florence M. Greist of Minneapolis.
Elgiva Carter died on April 30, 1960, at the home of her daughter, Marjorie, in Beloit. She is buried with her husband in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis, Kansas.
