Esther Marie Emery
1907 - 1997

Esther Marie Emery was born May 5,1907, at Minneopolis, Kansas. She was the oldest child of Newton Clyde Emery and Elgiva (Carter) Emery.

Esther's father was a banker. The family moved to nearby Tescott when Esther was eleven. She attended high school at Minneapolis and Tescott, graduating from Tescott High School in 1925. She worked at her father's bank, then attended Kansas State College at Manhattan, where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority, and attended Emporia State Teachers College where she obtained a teaching certificiate in 1928. She then taught for six years, at Lincoln and at Beloit, Kansas. Esther was an accomplished pianist and vocalist, and oil paintings which she sold and as a hobby.

Esther was married to Carl Warren Eklund on December 23, 1935, at Minneapolis, Kansas. She has resided where Carl served as a Methodist pastor in several central Kansas communities. She also has taught in the public schools a number of years while resideing at Downs, Russell and at Medicine Lodge. She has resided in Wichita since Carl's retirement in 1978. She has been active in P.E.O., the D.A.R. and various youth organizations in the communities where she has lived.

Esther and Carl Eklund had three Children who are Carol Sue (Eklund) Foster, Richard Manley Eklund ane Bruce Warren Eklund.
