Charlotte Council

Charlotte Council was born near Tarboro, North Carolina, about 1797. She was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Council who took their family from North Carolina to Tennesse, thence to Kentucky, and from there to Gallatin (now White) County, illinois. Charlotte was married there to Robert McClelland in about 1816.

Charlotte Council was a descendant of John Hardy who arrived in Virginia from England before 1654. His own ancestory has been traced to Clovis the Great (c. 466 - 511), Charlemagne (742 - 814), William The Conqueror(c. 1028 - 1087) and the royal lines of Europe.

Charlotte Council McClelland was the mother of twelve children, two of whom were born in White County and the others in Sangamon County, Illinois. Their first child born in Sangamon County was William McClelland, following.
